FOUNDING IN 1983 WITH ONE CRANE

In 1983, Bob Turner founded Bob’s Crane Service with just a used Bucyrus Erie 12-ton crane and a dream.

After years of working in construction and completing the Operating Engineer's Local 12 Apprenticeship Program, where he mastered a range of heavy equipment, Bob took a leap of faith and started his own business. On the very day he signed the papers for his first crane, he secured a major job at the Interstate 8 and 67 interchange, a project that lasted nearly a year and a half.

While the early ‘90s saw a downturn in construction, leading to the closure of many crane companies, Bob’s Crane Service continued to grow. With a lean operation and lower overhead, Bob successfully navigated the challenging times, even purchasing several used cranes at auction as competitors went out of business.

A Legacy of EXCELLENCE and Resilience

1990's: Expansion and Shift to Construction

As Bob’s company weathered the industry downturn, he began to expand his team and shift focus. What had started as a one-man operation became a growing business, moving from tree-moving projects to large-scale construction work. This shift led to involvement in significant projects, including bridge construction and freeway work.

2000's: Major Projects and Growth

The turn of the millennium brought high-profile opportunities for Bob’s Crane Service. The company played a key role in several major projects, including work on Interstate 15, the construction of San Diego’s Petco Park, surrounding hotels, and projects in the historic Gaslamp District.

Today: A Leading Crane Service Provider

What started with a single used crane has evolved into a thriving business with a fleet of 30 cranes, ranging from 12-ton to 350-ton capacity. Bob attributes the company's success to his dedicated team and loyal customers, who have helped Bob’s Crane Service become a trusted name in the industry.
